We are constantly improving our energy efficiency

It is out of conviction that we make targeted investments in efficient production facilities. When purchasing refrigeration systems or pneumatic compressors, for example, we pay particular attention to high efficiency, as sustainability protects the environment. In some cases, this also saves operating costs, which is a welcome side effect.

In 2024, we were able to save over 200 MWh. This corresponds roughly to the annual electricity consumption of around 40 four-person households in a Swiss detached house. These savings were made possible by repairing compressed air leaks in our production facilities, reducing the load on our cooling system and using energy-saving filters in the ventilation systems.

Highlights from past energy efficiency optimisation initiatives:

The hughaus is air-conditioned with groundwater.

The hughaus is heated with waste heat from our tartelettes production facilities.

The waste heat from the pneumatic compressors is used to reheat the water needed for production.

The replacement of two ventilation systems was carried out in 2022. This optimisation allows us to save over 120,000 kWh annually as part of our ongoing efficiency improvement programme.

In 2021, we removed the oil-fired heating system and thus closed the energy cycle of the waste heat utilisation system.

We began optimising the lighting in our HUG Ringli shop at the Willisau production site in 2018. We opted for efficient LED technology. Two years later, the lighting in the production building in Malters was partially renovated.
