Our plastic trays play an important role in ensuring that our tender biscuits are delivered in one piece. Without a protective tray, our soft and thin Butterherzli would end up as crumbs. When we use plastic, we opt for recycled plastic – the core of our trays is made from 80% recycled PET.

Reduction in weight of pastry carriers

In 2024 we reduced the weight of all pastry carriers from the Wernli Choco Petit-Beurre range, resulting in an annual plastic reduction of 5.5 tons. This corresponds roughly to the weight of eight Swiss dairy cows.

Recyclable, but not yet collected

To close the recycling loop, we would like our plastic trays to be collected, but unfortunately this is not yet possible. Currently, only PET beverage bottles are collected so as not to contaminate the PET recycling chain through sorting errors.

To reduce the amount of plastic waste incinerated in the future, a collection system is needed. This is where RecyPac comes in. We are actively involved in this Swiss industry organisation for the implementation of the circular economy for plastic packaging and beverage cartons.
